The Old Summer Palace also known as Yuanmingyuan in Beijing, China was first constructed in the year of 1709 during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi. In 1860 the imperial museum was plundered and burnt down by the Anglo-French Allied Forces, today many of these stolen artefacts are on display in museums around the world including the British Museum and the Bibliotheque Nationale de France.
